Mashhur took the path of poetry at the age of 15.

In 1872 he graduated from a religious madrasa in Kogiltash, Bukhara, where he received a higher Muslim education and worked as a teacher in his native village.

His articles, essays, and poems were periodically published in the newspaper "Dala ualayaty" and the magazine "Aikap". He received the name "Mashkhur" (Arabic - glorious, famous, worthy). In 1887-1890 he visited the cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Tashkent, Turkestan and others. Acquaintance with Russian orientalist-turkologist, ethnographer V.V.Radlov influenced the formation of M.Kopeyev's interests as a collector of Kazakh folklore. Since 1872 he started collecting oral literature of Northern and Central Kazakhstan, which helped him to learn folk folklore more deeply.

Mashhur Zhusip in his lifetime, in 1930, began to erect his eternal resting place, he himself supervised the construction, gave instructions. The mausoleum consisted of 2 rooms, he willed to leave one of the rooms open and bury him there. He predicted that his body would be preserved for 40 years, and asked to change the white cloth covering his body every year in the summer. In the front room he bequeathed to place the Koran and other books, utensils, saddle and other things of his, which, in his opinion, may be useful to travelers. Mashur Jusip himself, during his lifetime, held the anniversary of his presumed death. He apparently foresaw that 1932 would be a year of calamities, derailments, and suffering.

In 1952, due to the then policy of militant atheism, the tomb and the mausoleum were destroyed.
