The purpose of training is educating professionals who know the fundamentals of the theory and methodology of source studies, sources on the history of Kazakhstan, unified conceptual approaches to the study of the culture of the people, the history of primitive societies, archeology, ethnology, ancient history, antiquity, medieval history, ancient and medieval history of Kazakhstan, modern history of Kazakhstan, modern history of foreign countries, historiography, the history of modern countries and peoples; foundations of the general psychology and pedagogy; system of ideological knowledge, practical skills in archeological and ethnographic expeditions, methodology of teaching history in secondary school, methodological and organizational work in history classrooms, skills of analyzing educational situations, etc.

According to the data from the National Rating Agency of the Ministry of Education and Science, PSU's program in 5В020300 History was ranked 2nd in 2013 and 3rd in 2014.

- 5В011400 History

The general aim of the educational program in 5B011400 History is to ensure conditions for students to get a full, high-quality education and build professional competence in the field of history.

A graduate in 5B011400 History can teach the History of Kazakhstan, World History and the humanities in general secondary school, lyceum, gymnasium, college and other organizations of secondary and vocational secondary education, hold positions in government and non-governmental institutions (professional development institutes, publishing companies), consulting firms, educational institutions (laboratory assistant, classroom supervisor, consultant, manager, etc.).

The graduates get the academic degree of Bachelor of History.

- 5B020800 Archaeology and Ethnology

The purpose of the educational program is to provide students with systematic knowledge in the basic course of Archaeology and Ethnology based on a solid experimental and theoretical ground, along with the knowledge in the field of elective subjects based on the latest achievements of science, as well as to train highly-qualified specialists in the field of archeology and ethnology.

The object of the study within the given program is a set of archaeological and ethnographic sources, a variety of objects of material and spiritual culture of the past, archaeological cultures and cultural-historical communities, the history of archeology and ethnology, theory and methods of archaeological and ethnological research.

- 6М020300 History, 6M020800 Archaeology and Ethnology

The Department has highly-professional academic staff which makes it possible to train Masters in History and Archeology and Ethnology. The Master's degree programs offer an opportunity to obtain extensive theoretical knowledge and get practical experience in the field of archeology, ethnology, history, historiography and source studies of the history of Kazakhstan. Master's degree students have research internships abroad where they work in libraries, archives and research centers. They conduct research in topical problems of the national historical and archaeological sciences.
