The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation was organized in 2014 on the basis of the Departments of Automation and Control (1989) and Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications (2008).

The department trains bachelors and masters, as well as doctoral students who are able to independently and creatively solve the problems of design, research, commissioning and operation of modern systems in any industry.

The educational process is conducted by highly qualified teachers with extensive experience in scientific, pedagogical and industrial activities. Among them are 7 professors, 2 doctors of technical sciences, 7 candidates of technical sciences, 7 PhD doctors. Highly qualified scientific specialists from leading organizations and enterprises of the city and the region are involved in the training of students.

Specialists who have been trained at the department successfully work at various industrial enterprises, in various industries and design institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and CIS countries.

Considerable attention is paid to the participation of students in the work of the SSS and participation in scientific conferences. In terms of deeper assimilation of educational material and obtaining additional knowledge, excellent students of the department's specialties are involved in additional tasks, which later become topics of reports at student scientific and technical conferences and topics of a special part of diploma projects.

During the entire period of the department's existence, various research works were carried out on orders for industrial enterprises of the Pavlodar-Ekibastuz region. Over 45 research projects have been completed with a total cost of more than 93.5 million tenge.
