The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 2004 and carries out activities aimed at training highly qualified specialists as well as providing scientific and methodological support for the humanities and social sectors. The history of the Faculty’s development is closely connected with the formation and advancement of scientific and methodological schools functioning within its departments.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences operates in accordance with the Development Program of Toraighyrov University NJSC, as well as the Concept for the Development of Higher Education and Science in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023–2029, approved by Resolution No. 248 of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 28, 2023.
In cooperation with local executive authorities, the Faculty actively implements the program “Strong University – Strong Region.” Today, many of the Faculty’s scholars are actively involved in the work of project offices of the departments of culture, language development and archival affairs, religious affairs, healthcare, information and public development, as well as district akimats. This enables the effective use of the University’s scientific and technical potential to address regional development challenges.
The goal of the Faculty is to become a regional center of academic excellence through the formation of advanced research schools in the field of humanities and social sciences.
The mission of the Faculty is to train socially responsible professionals in the humanities and social sciences capable of ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the region.
The Faculty offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in the following fields: history, archaeology and ethnology; philosophy, cultural studies, sociology and political science; foreign philology and translation studies; psychology, social work, pedagogy, pedagogy and psychology; Kazakh philology; Russian philology; journalism; library science; Kazakh language and literature.
The Faculty employs approximately 30 Doctors and Candidates of Sciences. Around 10 research and scientific-technical projects have been implemented; more than 5 copyright certificates and patents for inventions have been obtained; over 100 scientific articles and monographs have been published. The Faculty actively cooperates with organizations, companies, and enterprises of the city and region.
The Faculty also hosts the following structural units:
the Y. Bekmakhanov Research and Practice Center for Regional History and Ethnography, the Zh. Aimauytov Research and Practice Center for Ethnopedagogy and Innovative Educational Technologies, the Research and Practice Center “Mashkhur Studies,” the Department of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan,
the A.Kh. Margulan Joint Archaeological Research Center, as well as the Institute of Socio-Political Studies.
In addition, the Faculty is equipped with a simultaneous interpretation laboratory furnished with modern technical equipment. Within this facility, students receive training and practical experience as oral and written interpreters. This enables students to acquire practical skills in translation, intercultural communication, and the support of international delegations.
