Viktor Karlovich Merts is the Director of A.Kh. Margulan Joint Archaeological Research Center, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History of S. Toraighyrov PSU, Head of Pavlodar Archaeological Expedition. He graduated from Karaganda State University with a degree in History. Field of research: the Stone Age and primitive archeology as a whole, problems of anthropogenesis and cultural genesis, domestication of the horse, the origin of art.

V.K. Merts is the founder of professional archaeological activities in Pavlodar region, he discovered a number of unique archaeological sites, including a multi-layered site Shiderty 3 which was studied in 2005-2006 under the Cultural Heritage state program. He was the first to raise the problem of studying the monuments of the Early Bronze Age, discovered unique rock drawings in Akbidaik, and one of oldest localities of pebble tools in Kazakhstan (near Lebyazhye village). Participant of many national and international scientific and practical conferences on archeology of northern Eurasia, performer of many research projects. Author of over 80 research papers published in journals of Kazakhstan, Russia and Germany, the editor of several collections of scientific papers devoted to the study of archaeological monuments of Pavlodar region. He is currently conducting research of multilayered settlements Borly and Borly 4, solving global problems of cultural genesis in the Neolithic and Eneolithic era, as well as formation of the productive economy in Kazakhstan. He is developing the concept of the cultural and historical development of the North-Eastern Kazakhstan from ancient times to the Middle Ages, projects of studying complexes of archeological monuments and creation of historical and archeological museum complexes in the open air.

Ilya Viktorovich Merts, a researcher, MA in History, Bachelor's degree in History from Altai State University. At present, he is a graduate student of the Department of Archeology, Ethnography and Museology at Altai State University.

Field of research: the Bronze Age Archaeology of Northern Eurasia, in particular the problem of cultural genesis, pottery, formation of metallurgy and mining in the Bronze Age. He has worked in this area for 6 years. Author of over 20 research papers published in journals of Kazakhstan and Russia. Participant of a number of research projects, archaeological expeditions in Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia.
