S.Toraighyrov PSU took part in the seminar "The challenges of energy and rural development in the context of climate change in Kazakhstan" (Almaty), organized by the University of Sheffield (UK), in partnership with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, with the support of the British Council. The seminar was held within the framework of the programme Newton-Al Farabi Researcher Links.

The purpose of the seminar – is the assessment of the main trends in Kazakhstan climate change and the connected with it potential socio-economic models that affect energy supply, in the context of the national climate and energy policy.

The focus of the seminar - is the analysis of the factors affecting the energy sector in general, including questions about energy efficiency, CO2 capture and storage, renewable sources of energy, clean coal technology, hybrid power systems in remote areas, smart energy networks and energy storage technologies. Working language was English.

In the event took part the leading and novice researchers and experts from the UK and Kazakhstan in such areas of expertise as energy, environment and sustainable development, agriculture, climatology, biotechnology, IT and others.

The seminar was also attended by representatives of national companies, international non-governmental organizations, the Government of Kazakhstan and Akimat of Almaty.

During the seminar, Alexander Antontsev made a presentation on Energy Conservation Program of S. Toraighyrov PSU.

"The seminar provided a unique opportunity for our university experts to discuss topical problems of development of Kazakhstan energy sector with a foreign colleagues from the UK leading universities and organizations, and with the Kazakh colleagues. Areas of cooperation in further research have been discussed", - said Alexander Vitalievich.

Also during the program visits were organized visits on Kapchagai solar power station and leading laboratories of Al-Farabi KazNU..
