A holiday marking the importance of the kindest profession was celebrated at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University. A solemn event dedicated to Social Worker Day was held at the performance hall of the University.
The event was organized by the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy.
Social Worker Day is one of newly established professional holidays (it was established in 2011).
The dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Candidate of Political Sciences Amergaly Begimtayev, delivering his congratulatory speech to the audience, said that “the labor and efforts of the academic staff of the University aim to train social protection specialists, who will meet the requirements of international standards and the needs of the present”.
“Every person requires a personal approach and total commitment. That is why students, who are future social workers, must possess such personal qualities as emotional generosity and unselfishness, mercy and diligence,” said Amergaly Ilyashevich.
Students presented the results of a social work survey recently held among people living in Pavlodar. Survey findings show that social work is not considered as a prestigious one, but the profession remains necessary nowadays. This is because social workers help those in need, and sometimes the latter trust the former more than they trust to relatives.
Participants of the event agreed that “social workers are the first to address problems facing people and to give a helping hand to those who suffer life’s unexpected difficulties.
Besides this, students took a creative approach to the event, having arranged musical performances and sketches about their profession. A fashion show “The dress code of a social worker” was a good addition to the program.
“Work in the social protection sphere forms character and a way of living. It makes one smile when people express their gratitude to him or her for a job well done. Kindness and mercy seem so rare sometimes. That is not so. There are social workers, whose activity is directly related with these noble qualities and positive moments of life,” said a student of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy, Indira Smagul.
