A meeting of Karl Idsvoog, trainer/consultant of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University, with the academic staff members and students of the Departments of Journalism and Sociology and Political Science of the University took place in S. Toraighyrov PSU on May 16, 2014.

Karl Idsvoog is a highly versatile multimedia trainer/consultant. He has completed highly successful media development/training missions for the U.S. Department of State, the International Center for Journalists, Internews, Radio Free Asia and IREX.

He developed and taught the broadcast curriculum for the Caucasus School of Journalism & Media Management in Tbilisi. In Armenia, he helped Yerevan State University restructure its journalism curriculum.

Karl Idsvoog received the Columbia DuPont award for investigative reporting. He also received national reporting awards for health reporting, education reporting, and online reporting.

Opening the event, Head of the Department of Journalism, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Krykbay Aldabergenov, introduced the guest and welcomed the participants of the seminar.

Karl Idsvoog held a training in reviewing global and local trends, development of the active presence of new media. He taught students to use new media to present interactive stories, told how to report information using multimedia tools, and explained the mechanisms of promotion of the finished product on the mass media market. He also gave some useful tips on proper posting of interactive stories in social networks.

'Nowadays, a journalist has to keep up with the pace of modern life, has to be a multimedia personality. It is important not only to be able to present text information as quickly as possible, it is also essential to provide adequate visual material. A journalist's duty is not only writing, but also shooting video and editing it, which means providing a complete high-quality media product,' said Karl Idswoog.
