Research

The research activities carried out by members of the Department of Russian Philology are in line with the priorities of the Concept of National Information Policy of Kazakhstan.

The following research projects are being performed at the moment: New Approaches to Teaching the Russian Language; Problems of the State Language Functioning in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Women's Education in Kazakhstan in the Historical Aspect; The Contribution to Kazakh Pedagogy Made by Russian Educators; Development of Future Teachers' Civic Qualities in the Course of Linguistic Training at an HEI; Ideological Foundations of Russian Writer's Creativity; Problems of Cognitive Linguistics; Slavic Folklore in Kazakhstan: Current State, Problems and Prospects for Further Research.

The results of the research work carried out by the Department's staff are presented in monographs, study guides, special courses, courses of lectures, publications in journals and conference proceedings of various levels.

International Cooperation

The Department works closely with the leading universities and research centers of Kazakhstan and other countries.

Agreements on cooperation have been concluded with higher education institutions of many countries. In December 2012, members of the Department held the 10th International Winter School "New Paradigms and New Solutions in Cognitive Linguistics"; 1st International Roundtable Conference on Multicultural Linguistic Space in Kazakhstan in cooperation with some of the leading linguists of Russia (M.V. Pimenova, V.V. Dementyev), Ukraine (V.M. Britsyn, I.V. Kazimirova) and Belarus (V.A. Maslova).

2 collections of research papers (“The World of Language”) and a collective monograph (“Concept and Discourse”) were published in co-authorship with researchers from other countries (Pavlodar - Kemerovo - Vitebsk).

The Department invites foreign lecturers to deliver lectures and teach practical classes to undergraduate and postgraduate students: Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor S.M. Zoltan (University of Budapest, Hungary), Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor I.A. Kazimirova (Institute of the Ukrainian Language, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).

Students’ Research Projects

Starting from year 1, students are actively involved in research activities. Senior students participate in implementation of research projects and make reports at various conferences.

Students of the Department actively participate in the work of 4 scientific clubs: Comprehensive Analysis of Literary Texts, Historic Comments to Texts, The Current State of Folklore in Kazakhstan, and Conceptual Research in the Field of Linguistics.

Students also take an active part in public and scientific life of the University. They participate in international conferences, academic competitions, and research projects contests.
