Curriculum support and development

In the 2018-2019 academic year, the teaching and academic staff members of the Department deliver 87 courses, including 42 courses taught in the Kazakh language and 45 courses taught in the Russian language.

The Department’s teaching staff members have developed curriculum guidelines and training packages for the taught courses, including work programs, syllabi and preparation materials for current, midterm and final exams. The analysis of the curriculum guidelines and training packages shows that their quality meets the requirements of the State Compulsory Educational Standard of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The curriculum guidelines and training packages are notable for their thoroughness. The content of independent student work and independent student work with a teacher corresponds to the principles of practical orientation, taking into account the needs and interests of students.

The Department’s curriculum guidelines and training packages for first and second semesters are fully developed.

Together with the academic and teaching staff of Altai State University (Russia, Barnaul) the Department has developed a joint master’s degree program in the field of Tourism for the 2018-2019 academic year. It has been successfully approved.

Open classes were delivered by the teaching staff members of the Department (PhD, Associate Professor D. D. Yessimova, PhD, Associate Professor Sh. G. Kairova, a senior lecturer Zh. Dauyt, teachers (assistants) K. N. Zhaksalykov, M. A. Amirghaly, M. M. Amangeldinova) according to the open class schedule for the 2018-2019 academic year. All classes were conducted at a fairly high methodological level. The content of the classes is designed in full compliance with the standard and work programs. A more detailed analysis is given in the journal of mutual visits and open classes.

Students are provided 100% access to full guidelines of courses and training packages on the University Portal.

Head of the Department of Geography and Tourism, PhD, Associate Professor Dinara Dautovna Yessimova contributed as a participant for the workshop on “Sustainable Energy and Climate Change in Russia: policies, discourses, and narratives” held at Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK, 28th to 30th November 2018.

The seminar was organized and financed by the British Council of the British Consulate at Nottingham Trent University, the Faculty of Sociology and International Relations.

The scientific seminar was attended by 36 scientists from all over the world, representing Oxford, Birmingham, Abertay, Manchester Metropolitan, Middlesex, Greenwich, Sheffild Halam, Warwick, Bournemouth, Altai, Perm, Moscow Higher School of Economics, etc.

D. D. Yessimova delivered a report titled “Formation of ecological consciousness of the population within the framework of the elective course “Ecology of Pavlodar Region” that included the analysis of the research results of the project titled “An Express Course: Ecology of Pavlodar Region” financed by the Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Leader of the Nation.

From April 01-05, 2019, Associate Professor of the Department Sh. G. Kairova participated in the Erasmus+ program, having delivered a series of lectures on “Geographical features and ecological problems of Central Asia and Kazakhstan” to the students of the Palace University, Olomouc (the Czech Republic).

The effectiveness of independent research work is proven by the successful defense of master’s theses, participation in international conferences at various levels and the publication of articles in scientific journals and development of thorough study guides.
