ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF "FOREIGN PHILOLOGY" IN THE FIELD OF QUALITY FOR THE 2023–2024 ACADEMIC YEAR

 

1. Projects.  The Erasmus+ project "Initiating and Implementing Innovative Approaches, Entrepreneurial Skills, and Mindsets through Creating Favorable Conditions for Improving Employment Opportunities for Graduates in Central Asia – TRIGGER" is being implemented. The project is funded by the European Union and coordinated by Professor Kairbayeva A.K.; a project with the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Wisconsin, USA) under the partnership program between American and Kazakh universities titled "University Governance and Financial Management."  The project titled "Revenue Generation via Language Centers" focuses on generating income through language centers; a collaboration with Michigan State University (USA) titled "Writing Centers to Support Kazakhstan’s Contributions to the Global Scientific Community."

2. Contractual topics (grant funding for scientific research) and commercialization. As part of the commercialization efforts for "Organization and Proctoring of the International TOEFL ITP Test," funding of 970,929 tenge was attracted (Zhumabekova B.K., Baitemirova М.Zh.).

3. Faculty members participate in international and national scientific conferences, symposiums, and workshops. During the XXXXIV International Winter Scientific School, organized by the International Humanitarian University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, faculty members Kabbassova A.T., Kapenova Zh.Zh., Zhumasheva A.Sh., Zhumabekova B.K., Zhuravleva E.A., Pogozheva E.Yu., and Kairdarova A.Z. attended a series of lectures on "Cognitive Linguistics and Linguoculturology" and received certificates (from January 8, 2024, to January 26, 2024).

An international seminar on "Modern Research and Teaching Methods: From Neural Networks to Language Pragmatics" was organized for the faculty of the departments of "Foreign Philology," "Trilingualism," as well as for high school teachers, master's students, and doctoral candidates. Seminar participants listened to presentations by Fominykh N.Yu., Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Moscow, Russia, Hafez Abdo, Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Nottingham, UK, and Ercan Gulsum Songul, Visiting Professor at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkey (February 23, 2024; March 19, 2024).

On March 4, 2024, a seminar was organized by representatives of Nazarbayev University (the organizer was the head of the department Kabbassova A.T.). During the seminar, Andrew Drybrough, PhD in "Higher Education/Higher Education Administration" from the University of Edinburgh, conducted a master class on the topic: "Academic English for Teachers and Students."

4. Invitation of Foreign Visiting Professors. Every year, leading professors from foreign universities are invited to give lectures at the University.

The department hosted Fulbright scholar Evan Sierra (USA), who conducted practical sessions in several disciplines. Under his supervision, a Speaking Club for students and university staff was organized at the department.

Faculty members participated in seminars organized by the following visiting professors: English Language Fellow Ghadah Rahman (June 1-2, 2024); Bärbel Gutzat, PhD, Germany, Senior Expert Service (SES) program; Antje Fechner, lecturer at the Language Center of Anhalt University, Germany.

5. Publication of Monographs, Textbooks, and Others. The following have been published: an electronic textbook titled "Developing Academic Writing Skills," authored by Zhumabekova B.K. and Kairbayeva A.K., published by Toraighyrov University, Pavlodar, 2023; a textbook titled "Task Book on the Theory of Linear Electric Circuits. Study Guide," authored by Mustafina R.M., Kairbayeva A.K., Talipov O.M., and Musekenova G.O., published by Toraighyrov University, Pavlodar, 2023.

6. Author Certificates for the Department. "Developing Academic Writing Skills" Study Guide for Students of Higher Education Institutions. E-book, authored by Zhumabekova B.K. and Kairbayeva A.K., published by Toraighyrov University, Pavlodar, 2023.

7. Publications in International Peer-Reviewed Journals (according to Thomson Reuters, Scopus, RSCI, SHEQAC) and at international and national conferences of various levels. Faculty members have publications indexed in Scopus—3 articles, SHEQAC—11 articles, and in collections of international conferences—28 articles.

8. Information on Professional Development and Retraining. All faculty members of the department have completed professional development and retraining courses in inclusive education, as well as professional development courses relevant to the subjects taught.

9. Scientific and Research Work of Students (SRWS): Students of the department participated in various events (conferences, competitions, debates, forums, etc.). Students from the EP 6B02303 - Translation Studies  - Ermuratova A., Fedorov K., and Nekrasova D. participated in the III International Student Competition for Professionally Oriented Translation, organized by the Academy of Professional Translation and MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and received certificates. Students from the EP 6B02303 - "Translation Studies" - Ermuratova A. and Fedorov K. participated in a written translation competition on the topic "A United World – Beyond Linguistic Barriers," organized by the Association of Translators and Translation Companies of Kazakhstan in Astana, and were awarded first and second-degree diplomas. Students Fedorov K. and Hamzin O. took part in the annual national subject Olympiad for universities in Taraz (A gratitude letter to the rector is available). Student Korobko D. participated in the second round of the annual student research competition. Students from the EP 6B02303 - "Translation Studies" and EP 6B02304 - "Foreign Philology" completed online courses on the Coursera platform and received certificates.

10. External/Internal Academic Mobility. Students of the group EP 5B02303 "Translation Studies" PD-202 Derksen Yu. and AI-301 Ermuratova A. studied at the Baltic International Academy (Riga, Latvia) from December 24, 2023, to June 7, 2024, under the academic mobility program. Master's and doctoral students from the department underwent research internships at Palacký University from March 1, 2024, to April 1, 2024 (Olomouc, Poland).

11. Accreditation of Educational Programs. The educational programs in the fields of 6B02304 - Foreign Philology and 6B02303 - Translation have passed accreditation for a period of 5 years.
