The Department of Architecture and Design has gone through several stages of development and leadership, including significant transformation of the curriculum. Since 2018, it has been providing master's programs, expanding training in architecture, design and building materials. Much attention is paid to the qualifications of teachers, among whom there are doctors of sciences, candidates of sciences and PhDs, which indicates a high level of the educational process.

The Department of “Architecture and Design” was established in 2003. From 2001 to 2003, the training of specialists in these fields was carried out at the Department of “Urban Construction and Economy,” which was headed by Ph.D. in Technical Sciences, Professor Danilov V.I. The head of the Department of “Architecture and Design” was Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor Ukrainianets V.N. From 2008 to 2013, the department was headed by Ph.D. in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of Toraighyrov University, Temirbayeva Z.A. From 2013 to 2024, the department was headed by Ph.D. in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of Toraighyrov University, Bulyga L.L. Currently, the program is led by candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Abisheva S.I.

Undergraduate education at the university in the fields of “Architecture,” “Design,” and “Production of Building Materials, Products, and Structures” is carried out based on licenses issued by international accreditation agencies. Since 2004, bachelors have been trained under the educational program “Production of Building Materials, Products, and Structures,” and since 2018, masters have been trained in the same field. From 2018 to 2022, the department provided master’s training under the educational program “Standardization and Certification (in Construction).”

The standard duration of full-time education in the “Architecture” and “Design” programs under the higher specialized education system is 5 years and is carried out in accordance with the State Compulsory Standard of Professional Higher Education, awarding the following qualifications: Architecture – Bachelor of Engineering and Technology, Architect; Design – Bachelor of Arts.

Training is conducted in both the state (Kazakh) and Russian languages.

The department’s staff consists of 27 instructors, 14 of whom hold academic degrees:

• Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences – Amirgazin Kairtay Zhakupovich;

• Candidates of Technical Sciences – Kornienko Pavel Vasilievich, Dzhumashev Utegen Rakhmetovich, Nikiforova Valentina Gennadievna, Omarov Zhumabek Mukhtarovich, Bulyga Leonid Leonidovich, Stanevich Viktor Tadeushevich, Sviderskaya Diana Sergeevna;

• Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences – Abisheva Saule Ivanovna, Temirbayeva Zhanna Amangeldievna;

Of these, there are 4 professors, 9 associate professors, and 2 PhDs: Karynsakov Arnur Zhasabekovich, Vyshar Olga Viktorovna.
