S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University hosted a round-table conference in memory of Doctor of Political Sciences, PSU Professor Gabit Irenov on October 25, 2013.

This year, Gabit Irenov would celebrate his 75th birthday. In all the years of his professional activity he had been a brilliant scientist, teacher, and a gifted leader.

Working in senior positions in the party and government bodies, as well as in secondary and higher education, G.N. Irenov demonstrated great organizational and pedagogical skills. He was a deputy head of the Department of Philosophy and Socio-political Disciplines, Associate Professor, Professor of S. Toraighyrov PSU (since 2001). Director of the regional center for political studies (since 2007), head of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science at PSU.

In his later years, he wrote dozens of monographs, articles and study guides. He published over 200 works in which he identified, described, and proposed solutions for the problems of Kazakstani society consolidation, sovereignty and independence of the Republic, national politics and inter-ethnic relations. He had his own vision of each major problem. He had a lot of projects planned for the future.

The opening speech was delivered by the Vice-rector for Development Strategy, Education and Social Affairs of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Arman Akishev who spoke of Gabit Irenov as of the luminary of political science: “He wasn't just a scientist - he always wanted to see the results of his activity implemented in practice. He was very active in social work. As a head of the Department of Political Science, he was like a father to his students and young teaching staff members. He supervised several Candidate's dissertations and Master's theses. And now young Candidates of Sciences and Masters cherish the memory of their Teacher who helped them make their first steps in the world of science”.

PSU scientists made reports during the Conference: the Dean of the Faculty of History and Law, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Amergaly Begimtayev, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Eduard Yanchuk, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Professor Stepan Nevmerzhitskiy, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Tamara Zozulya. Some of the guests invited to this event also shared their vision of some urgent problems and paid their tribute to Gabit Irenov: Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Social Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kamalbay Mardanov, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, PSPI Professor Kabiden Zaguparov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, InUE Professor Murat Suleymenov.

Close relatives of Gabit Irenov attended this event and expressed their gratitude to the University management.

The participants of the Conference unanimously agreed that it is necessary to conduct such event on an annual basis.

A collective work entitled “Political Science” (in two volumes) was presented during the Conference. Its authors are PSU scientists and among them there was Gabit Irenov.

At the end of the Conference, there was a solemn opening of the classroom named after G.N. Irenov.
