An opening session of the scientific and practical conference entitled the Historical Importance of Astana in the Socio-economic Development of Kazakhstan was held at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University on July 5, 2013.

Vice-rector for Research and Innovation of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Nurlan Yerzhanov said in his opening speech, 'I hope that the bright image of our capital will inspire participants for an active and fruitful work'.

The administration of the University and deans of faculties presented reports on the role and historical importance of Astana in formation of prosperous Kazakhstan.

Modern Astana is a large city with the area of more than 200 square km. Every year the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan is becoming more and more attractive for its residents and foreign guest.

Combining the best traditions of Eastern and European cultures, the current architectural style of the city shapes up the image of Astana as the center of politics, culture and economics.

Astana was awarded the City of Peace title by UNESCO in 1999, and received a high rating from a famous rating agency Moody's Investors Service.

Thus, Astana has become an important element of the "Kazakhstan brand" and entered the list of top 30 cities of the world.
