The first constitutive meeting of the local historians of Pavlodar region was held in the Potanin regional museum, under the auspices of the departments of the History of Kazakhstan and Assembly of People of Kazakhstan of S. Toraighyrov PSU.

The main goal of the society is to promote the development of local lore and its popularization, study and preserve the historical, cultural and natural heritage in the region. Among the strategic tasks there is the introduction of disciplines on local history of Pavlodar region into the educational process of universities, colleges, and general schools.

At the initiative of historians, journalists, artists, the society will bear the name of the famous journalist, historian of local history, political figure Zhenis Mardanov.

Zhenis Mardanov lived a short but bright life.

After studying at Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys for an engineer-metallurgist, he spent a lot of time in the central archive, collecting materials on the Kazakh history of modern times. Zh. Mardanov became an active participant and ideological inspirer of the community of Kazakh student youth of Moscow “Zhas tulpar”.

Being a candidate of technical sciences and head of the department of physics, he decided to cast in lot with journalism.

The role of Zh. Mardanov in the revival of the Kazakh language, culture, traditions and customs of the people is invaluable.  

As Zuleikha Mardanova, the head of the department of the history of Kazakhstan of S.Toraighyrov PSU emphasized, in his publications Zhenis Mardanov was in advance of his time, somehow remained misunderstood. But even now it can be asserted that today his work could make a significant contribution to the implementation of the state program “Rukhani zhangyru” and the projects “Tugan zher” and “Sacral Geography”.
