The regular meeting of the cinema club "Cinema as a historical source" was held at PSU.

This time, the historical context and the atmosphere of the 80's film fan tried to learn through the prism of the film "The Burglar" (1987), directed by Valery Ogorodnikov. The main role in the picture was played by the bright representative of the Leningrad rock club, the leader of the "Alisa" group Konstantin Kinchev.

The film "The Burglar" reflects the picture of the world of Soviet reality of perestroika era, conveys the social, moral atmosphere of the time. Each of the characters feels his own hopelessness. The total crisis caused a feeling of voidness and conditioned the search for the inner world by people.

The film was received ambiguously by the students. Some perceived the film more as a documentary about the rock culture and the informal movement of the 1980s. The others students more focused on the problem of the family in the years of perestroika. Still others saw the main meaning in the egoism typical of a creative person.

The head of the film club, senior lecturer of the Department of History of Kazakhstan Aslan Azerbayev noted that the club provides for the study of historical realias through  the feature films.

The study of subcultures, in this case the rock culture and poetry of the Soviet rockers of that time, makes the process of studying this historic period more interesting, containing a philosophical and social context.
