An international scientific and practical conference “Spiritual and material values of the nation’s present and past” dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Alkey Margulan was held at Toraighyrov University.

 

Historians from Kazakhstan and abroad were among the guests and participants of the conference: Ziyabek Kabuldinov – Professor, Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Chokan Valikhanov, Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Corresponding Member of the NAS RK, Doctor of Historical Sciences; Danel Margulan - daughter of Alkey Margulan, Candidate of Medical Sciences, head of the department of “Margulan Studies” at the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Chokan Valikhanov, Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice-President of the International Foundation named after A. Margulan; Miljana Radivojevic – PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Archaeological Sciences at the Institute of Archeology, University College London, and others.

- Alkey Margulan’s tireless thirst for knowledge and enthusiasm led him to sensational discoveries that changed our understanding of the history and culture of Kazakhstan. Thanks to his painstaking work, we can contemplate the grandeur of ancient cities, immerse ourselves in the secrets of mounds and admire the spiritual places of our ancestors. But the most important thing is that Alkey Margulan was not only a talented scientist, but also a gifted popularizer of science. He knew how to fascinatingly talk about his discoveries to a wide audience, which sparked interest in the history and culture of Kazakhstan among many people,” noted the rector of the university, Yerkin Sadykov.

The participants of the conference discussed the life and work of not only Alkey Margulan, but also other historically important events and personalities who contributed to the formation of our republic, who contributed to the spiritual history of our people, who were studied by A. Margulan and his followers.

More than two hundred people took part in the event. The conference collection included articles in the following sections: “Life, work and legacy of A.Kh. Margulan”, “Current problems of history, archeology and ethnology”, “Problems of popularization of historical figures of Pavlodar Irtysh region”. 

An electronic collection of conference materials will be compiled based on the results of the event
