International scientific-practical conference "Topical problems of applied biotechnology" was held in Toraighyrov University. The conference was attended by professors from Pakistan, Estonia, and Russia, as well as representatives from the university's biotechnology department.
In his opening remarks, university rector Yerkin Sadykov said that biotechnology has the potential to revolutionize human life. He pointed out that biotechnology is essential for modern medicine, as it allows for the development of innovative diagnostic and treatment methods for diseases, including genetic diseases. He also noted that biotechnology can help address food security and environmental issues. For example, sustainable agricultural methods, improved plant varieties, and the development of bio-based materials can help reduce the environmental impact of human activities.
The conference raised issues of food safety in the country, climate change in relation to agriculture, as well as genotypic characteristics of sheep of different breeds and the relationship of DNA markers to productivity.
The university's biotechnology department presented the results of its research in these areas. The department has innovative patents for a number of new products, such as irimshik (a type of cheese made from goat's milk), the production of the delicatessen product "Mipalau," and others. The department is also working on adapting the traditional nomadic food production technologies to industrial conditions in order to promote Kazakh delicacies.
Biosecurity is also an important area of research for the department. Certified professors work on the department to develop scientific expertise in this field.
