The name “Industrial, Civil and Transport Construction” was given to the Department in 1987; prior to that time, i.e. in early 1960's, the Department was called “Fundamentals of Construction”, later it was renamed to “Building Structures”. In previous years, the Department was headed by Associate Professor Ya. M. Oroshilov (till 1975), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor M. A. Shintemirov (1975-1993), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor K. T. Sakanov (1993-1994), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor M. K. Kuderin (1994-1995), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Sh. K. Torpischev (1995-1997), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Professor S. K. Yelmuratov (1997-2003), Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor M. K. Beysembayev (2004-2005), Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor S. K. Yelmuratov (2006-2012) and Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Professor K. T. Sakanov (from August, 2012 up to the present time).
In 2002, a new program (440240 Construction of Roads and Airfields) was introduced. Since 2001, the Department has begun implementing the Bachelor’s program in 050729 Construction with three subprograms (specializations): Industrial and Civil Construction Technology; Engineering and Design of Buildings and Structures; and Construction of Roads and Airfields (Railways Construction; Roads and Airfields Construction); networks and systems.
As it was necessary to improve the quality of future specialists training, and there was high probability of introducing a new program (Transport Construction), a new department was established in 2009 (the Department of Transport Construction and Vocational Education headed by K. T. Sakanov from February, 2009).
On September 1, 2012, the Department was renamed to the Department of Industrial, Civil and Transport Construction which was caused by the need to optimize the work of the Faculty's departments taking into account the fields of specializations.
Over the 57 years of its existence, the Department of Industrial, Civil and Transport Constructioneducated more than 3,000 construction engineers and more than 1,062 Bachelors in construction who work in the vast area of the former Soviet Union. The best of them are actively involved in the development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, e.g. Daniyal Akhmetov (the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2004-2007, at the present time akim of EKO), Serikbay Bariyevich Alibayev (Mazhilis Deputy of the Republic of Kazakhstan), Nikolay Ivanovich Chmykh (Akim of Pavlodar in 2001-2004), Mikhail Alekseyevich Zykov (Chairmen of the IrtyshTransStroy Association), Kuat Yessimkhanovich Yessimkhanov (Temіrzholsu JSC President), Roman Vassilyevich Sklyar (Vice-minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and others.
Many alumni now work in the field of research and education, e.g. Marat Krykbayevich Kuderin (Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor), Kuandyk Timirovich Sakanov (Candidate of Engineering Sciences, PSU Professor), Valery Aleksandrovich Kozionov (Candidate of Engineering Sciences, PSU Professor) and others.
