A delegation from PSU, which included the Rector, deans of faculties and heads of structural units, visited Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov's mausoleum located in Toraighyr village, Bayanaul area.

Nariman Isenov, an authorized imam of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan in Pavlodar region, Chief Imam of the Central Mosque named after Mashkhur Zhusup, went with the PSU delegation.

The delegation visited Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov's grave and paid tribute to the outstanding Kazakh poet. Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov's mausoleum is located three hundred meters to the east of Lake Toraighyr. The mausoleum was built on the site of his grave in 1993 to commemorate Toraighyrov's 100 birthday. PSU members cleaned the territory of the mausoleum and later took part in a memorial prayer.

PSU members also visited the Museum of Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov. The Museum's staff held a tour for the guests and told many interesting facts about the life and work of the poet whose life was so short, yet so brilliant. He left a spiritual legacy truly unique in its originality and rich in its content.

According to Aryn Orsariyev, PSU, a university with a half-century history, was named after S. Toraighyrov in 2000. “Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov's words “I will be the Sun rising in the dark Kazakh sky” (kaz. “Қараңғы қазақ көгіне өрмелеп шығып, күн болам”) reflect the whole life of the great poet who entirely dedicated himself to education of his people. Pavlodar State University is guided by the same mission in all of its activites,” he said.

The delegation also visited the funerary complex of the early-Saka era (9-6 centuries BC) Toraighyr VI, which was studied by archeologists of the University in 2002 and 2007. During the tour, Ilya Merts, a research fellow at A. Margulan Center for Archaeological Research, told about the history of the study of this ancient monument and ancient nomads' worldview.

Toraighyr VI consists of 12 burial mounds and includes an iconic mound with a “mustache” and several stelae (koytas) and the “deer” stone. This monument is the most northwestern point of deer stones spread and reflects the early stage of Saka culture in the Northeast Kazakhstan.

PSU takes care of the great poet's museum and grave. “We consider it our duty and honor to take care of Sultanmakhmut Toraighyrov’s mausoleum and museum,” said Aryn Orsariyev.

Members of PSU's A. Margulan Center for Archaeological Research plan to continue their research at Toraighyr VI.
