A special event dedicated to the celebration of Kozy Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu Day was held by active members of the Committee on Youth Affairs under the student self-governance program in the alley of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University on April 15, 2014.

As an alternative to Saint Valentine's Day celebrated all over the world on February 14, Kazakhstan celebrates its own holiday on April 15, as a tribute to the great love between the heroes of the famous Kazakh epos Kozy Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu.

It has been celebrated since 2011. Translated from the Kazakh language, the name of this holiday is National Sweethearts Day («Ұлттық ғашықтар күні»).

The legend about the tragic love between Kozy Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu is well-known to all people in our country. The names of Kozy and Bayan have been inseparable for 15 centuries. The beauty and strength of their feelings have overcome the darkness of death. The light of love left by the two hearts has inspired akyns, playwrights, ethnographers, and historians of all ages and many nations. This story is still relevant today, as it serves as an example of true love and genuine relationships.

The Committee members tied colorful ribbons to the twigs of the tree growing in the yard in front of the main entrance to the University and made wishes. By doing this, they wanted to revive the memory of the ancient legend and promote this beautiful tradition among students.
