The winners of the scholarship named after a distinguished mathematician, Professor Galym Beysenovich Akhmetov were announced at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University.
The 50-year work of Professor G. B. Akhmetov is devoted to the higher education system. Having graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty and defended his dissertation at Computing Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow, G. B. Akhmetov worked as the head of a preparatory division, the head of the Department of Advanced Mathematics, the director of the Education-Science-Production Complex of physico-mathematical education at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, et al. G. B. Akhmetov was the author of more than 80 publications, 20 mathematics study guides, 1 monograph; he was awarded medals and honorary certificates for his activity.
The Galym Beysenovich Akhmetov Scholarship has been established by the family of Professor to encourage educational, scientific and creative activity of full-time students, studying at the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University.
The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis and is paid apart from other general established scholarships.
Students, who have the highest academic achievements (with excellent academic records) for no less than two semesters, who actively participate in social, scientific-research and practical activity of departments and divisions of the University, who are renowned among students and academic staff members, are eligible for the scholarship.
Students, meeting the applicable requirements and studying either on a fee paid basis or on a no-fee basis, have the right to take part in the competition on equal terms.
In this academic year a third-year student, majoring in Mathematics, Zhenis Dastan, who is the activist of the Faculty, a high achiever and the author of a number of publications, has become the first winner of the scholarship.
“Scholarships named after professors of our University have been established for the first time at PSU, I think, it will become a good tradition not only of our Faculty, but also of the whole University. This is excellent motivation for other students as well” said the dean of the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies Nurlybek Ispulov.
“My father always assigned high priority to communicating with people, helping them solve their problems, no matter whether the problems were big or small, important or less important. The formula of his hard, but beautiful and dynamic life was “Be a Human, and be able to overcome yourself”. He always said that “you must overcome your laziness and ignorance, you should appreciate and respect people, open new horizons for their growth” said the daughter of Galym Beysenovich, the Vice-rector for Academic Work of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences Gaukhar Akhmetova.
