Students of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University were among prize-winners at the National Academic Competition in Biotechnology, Geography, and Kazakh Philology held for students of educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty.
13 teams representing different universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in this academic competition which was held in two stages. At the first stage, which was a theoretical test, students demonstrated their knowledge by doing tests and solving problems in biochemistry, genetics, animal and plant biotechnology. The second (practical) stage included laboratory works in biotechnology of microorganisms and biochemistry.
S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University was represented by Viktoriya Dayeva, Anastasiya Dzhioyeva and Damir Temirov, undergraduate students of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. PSU students showed good results at both stages of the competition and won the third prize in the team event.
According to Candidate of Biological Sciences, Professor Zhanna Adamzhanova, who was the team supervisor, it was not the first time when students of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University represented their University with honour. “Despite the fact that our students did not win the main prize, this competition helped them unleash their creativity, realize their intellectual potential, and enhance their interest in science,” she said.
Kuanysh Zhaksylykov, Diyas Uraz and Sabina Abdrakhmanova, undergraduate students of the Department of Geography and Tourism, took the third place in Geography.
The PSU team supervised by Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, Associate Professor Dinara Yesimova presented a project devoted to the use of alternative energy sources in Bayanaul area.
Kuanysh Zhaksylykov admitted that a solid theoretical foundation was the decisive factor that helped our team win the bronze medal. “When we finish our studies and start working, no one will explain us what to do, we will have to solve all our problems on our own. So it is of crucial importance for students to take part in such events in order to get some practical experience.”
“I must say that this year there were many interesting and unusual tasks. All members of our team took this competition were seriously and did their best to complete all assignments and deliver the project to a high standard,” says Dinara Yesimova.
Finally, students of the Faculty of Humanities and Education also returned home with a victory. The team supervised by the Head of the Department of Kazakh Philology of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Nartay Zhusupov won the third prize in the Kazakh Philology section. Altynay Sarsekeyeva, Akmaral Yelshin and Kasymkhan Mukhitov were the members of this team.
