An opening ceremony of the International Science and Practice Conference on Integration of Science and Production in the Agroindustrial Complex was held in S. Toraighyrov PSU on April 25, 2014.

Deputy Akim of Pavlodar region Nurzhan Ashimbetov and Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, full member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kenzhegali Sagadiyev were the guests of honor at this Conference.

The Conference was also attended by Doctor of Agricultural Sciences from Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture and Agricultural Chemicals Nadezhda Dobrotvorskaya (Novosibirsk, Russia), Head of the Department of Fodder Production of KIZR, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, full member of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Galiolla Meyrman, Deputy Director of Karaganda Research Institute of Plant Cultivation and Breeding Yerbol Nurmanov, General Director of Pavlodar Research Institute of Agriculture Bakhyt Irmulatov.

Rector of S. Toraighyrov PSU, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Serik Omirbayev noted in his opening speech that the University has been training specialists in Agricultire since 2000. From 2003 to 2009, the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology was responsible for training specialists in this field. Since 2009, it has been the responsibility of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. 'Five years is a rather short period of time comparing to the long history of our University. However, active academic staff members and leading scientists of the University make every effort to ensure that the labor market has enough highly-qualified specialists in this field in accordance with the Government policy’, said Serik Omirbayev.

Within the program of the Conference, there was an opening ceremony of the Classroom named after full member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Yelaman Shakhanov.

Professional activity of Yelaman Shakhanov was entirely devoted to the agricultural science. He was one of the leading scientists in the field of genetics, selection and introduction of crop plants. He made a significant contribution to the creation of new types of crops, the study of chromosomal complex and selection methods.

The ceremony was attended by Shakhanov's wife Myrzabala and grandson Darkhan.

At the end of the Conference, full members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kenzhegali Sagadiyev and Galiolla Meyrman received diplomas of Honored Professors of S. Toraighyrov PSU.
