Members of the Student Philharmonic of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University held a charity event called “Sharing Kindness and Love”.

PSU students visited the Center for Women Rehabilitation and Adaptation, Murager Care Home, and Care Home for Disabled Elderly People of Pavlodar region. They held a concert and gave presents. Students performed lyrical songs, instrumental compositions, and folk dancing.

The Youth Volunteer Movement is designed for students who want to have a bright and busy life, always be in a good mood and share it with other people.

A new understanding of what life really is about – that's how PSU students define volunteering.

Are there many students who are ready to help people in need? Participants of this charity event claim that it is the beginning of a new life for them and they urge their fellow-students to follow their example.

“When you make a person smile, it surely brings you a sense of joy. If you want to help people in need, just like we do, become a volunteer and join our team! It is so great to realize that you can make somebody's life better,” says Gaukhar Musa, an undergraduate student of the Faculty of Humanities and Education.

Galiya Zhabagina, Deputy Director for Social Affairs at the Care Home for Elderly People, strongly believes that the elderly must not be isolated from the world. “When you are in your late 80's and you have, say, knee problems, you realize that it is very unlikely that your health condition will improve. Doctors can't do much about that, it just comes with age. The only thing that can help is creating the atmosphere that can make people forget about their health problems, at least for a while,” she said.

According to Akbota Sarybay, Chairperson of the Committee for Youth Affairs at S. Toraighyrov PSU, such events can teach students compassion and respect for the elderly. “As a matter of fact, what we do is not much, but sometimes even little things can make a big difference. If our visit made these people feel at least a bit happier, then we certainly achieved our goal,” said Akbota.
