Mereke Amantay, Zamira Soltanova and Nazgul Rabilova, undergraduate students of the Department of Journalism, won the second prize at the 7th National Academic Competition among HEI Students Majoring in Journalism held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

According to the supervisor of the PSU team, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism Kanat Kanapyanov, this competition was attended by 12 teams from universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan offering programs in Journalism. The first stage of the competition included tests in 4 main areas of educational programs for future journalists. At the second stage, the participants had to demonstrate their creativity in the following categories: Best Photo, Best Video, Best Radio Report and Best Online Essay. “Our team did really well, so no wonder that we returned back home with a well-deserved prize,” says Kanat Kanapyanov.

“We are delighted to have earned such praise from the jury. It inspires us to continue learning the secrets of our profession,” says Nazgul Rabilova. The jury consisted of Aynash Yesenali, a reviewer from the Yegemen Kazakhstan newspaper, Zhazira Isayeva, an editor of the Aytugha Onay program, Asylkhan Abdiraiymuly, a photo reporter, Nurtay Lakhanuly, a radio reporter, and Dinmukhammed Ziyadin, an SMM-specialist.

While mastering the profession of a journalist at PSU, students are actively involved in the work of the educational television center, contribute to publication of the Bilik and SMS+ university newspapers, and work as radio presenters at PSU-FM. “Here we acquire valuable practical skills that we will need for our future careers,” says Nazgul Rabilova.
