S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University hosted an international scientific and practical conference “The Phenomenon of Mashkhur-Zhusip, a Man of the World” dedicated to the 155th birthday of a great son of the Kazakh people, our famous fellow countryman, educator, orientalist, folklorist, and gifted poet Mashkhur Zhusip Kopeyev on November 21, 2013.

The plenary session of the Conference was attended by the Deputy Akim of Pavlodar region Nurzhan Ashimbetov; grandson of the poet, Doctor of Philological Sciences, PSU Professor Kuandyk Zhusip; great-grandson of the poet, the Head of the Department of Kazakh Philology at S. Toraighyrov PSU Nurtay Zhusip; Director of the National Information Center for the Study of Historical Materials, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Meruyert Abuseitova (Almaty); chief researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R. Suleymenov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Nagima Sagandykova (Almaty).

The Rector of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar University, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Serik Omirbayev emphasized in his openning speech: “Mashkhur Zhusip Kopeyev is one of the most prominent figures of our people. His artistic legacy makes a significant contribution to the cultural and social life of Kazakhstan. Originality of his personality and the sharpness of social and philosophical problems raised in his works require a more in-depth consideration, so we need to draw the attention of undergraduate and postgraduate students to the necessity of studying his cultural and historical heritage”.

During the plenary session, there was a presentation of a series of books about the life and work of Mashkhur Zhusip. Besides, there was a presentation of selected works by M.Zh. Kopeyev translated into the Russian language for the first time, as well as new archival materials on the history of Kazakhstan from foreign funds obtained under the state program "the People in the Flow of History".

Demirel Kazakh-Turkish University, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Danday Yskakuly (Almaty).

A documentary about Mashkhur Zhusip was shown during the Conference. It's called "The Wisdom Returned to the People". It was filmed by Pavlodar State University. There was also an awarding ceremony for participants of the paintings contest dedicated to the life and work of M.Zh. Kopeyev.

The awarding ceremony for the scientists who have made significant contribution to the study and promotion of M.Zh. Kopeyev's cultural heritage also took place during the Conference. They were awarded M. Zhusip Gold Medals.

On the same day, a ceremonial opening of the Museum named after M.Zh. Kopeyev was held in one of the classrooms of S. Toraighyrov PSU. An exhibition of books on the spiritual and historical heritage of M.Zh. Kopeyev was held in the foyer of the concert hall. All these rare books are available at the Scientific Library named after S. Beysembayev.
