A meeting of faculty members and staff dedicated to preventing online fraud and fostering a culture of cybersecurity was held at Toraighyrov University.

The keynote speaker was Serik Akhmetov, Head of the Department for the Formation of Legal Information in the Criminal Sphere at the Department of Legal Statistics and Special Records. He spoke about the most common types of online fraud, noting a steady increase in crimes committed using digital technologies in recent years. Since the beginning of the year alone, around 2,000 fraud cases have been registered in the Pavlodar region, with 87% carried out via the internet.

During the meeting, participants were presented with examples of widespread schemes, including phishing, fake online stores, calls from “bank employees,” and fraudulent job offers. Practical recommendations were also provided on protecting personal data and maintaining good cyber hygiene.

Toraighyrov University considers such meetings an important step toward enhancing the legal and digital awareness of faculty and staff, as well as promoting safe online behavior in society.
