Ulrich Kinne, Deputy Head of the German Embassy Mission in Kazakhstan, visited Toraighyrov University. During his visit, he met with students, toured the eco-garden, and participated in tree planting on the university campus.

As part of the visit, the representative of the German diplomatic mission gave a presentation at the summer school “Eurasian Climate Talks.” Ulrich Kinne discussed current environmental issues in Kazakhstan and their possible solutions with ToU students and faculty.

The Rector of Toraighyrov University, Nurlan Medetov, spoke to the guest about the history and achievements of the university. He noted that ToU currently educates 9,000 students across 198 educational programs. The Rector expressed hope for further cooperation with the German Embassy and thanked the diplomatic mission for its support of the “EcoGarden – Voice of the Planet” project.

“We have a plan to green the university campus and create favorable conditions for both staff and students, as well as for the city’s residents,” the Rector said. “We intend to install an irrigation system around the main areas of ToU. At the same time, we aim to participate in the GreenMetric international university ranking to assess the environmental sustainability and eco-friendliness of universities worldwide.”

On the occasion of ToU’s 65th anniversary, an eco-garden was opened on the university campus — a space designed for leisure, self-study, and reading.

In addition, Ulrich Kinne participated in tree planting on the university grounds together with international students and faculty of ToU. The initiative symbolized care for the future and the university’s commitment to sustainable development.
