Melinda Laituri, Professor of geography, arrived to PSU with a working visit. Professor Laituri is from Colorado State University.
The guests met with students and young scientists of the "Tourism" department.
According to Melinda Laituri, a priority objective of her visit - the creation of scale-adjusted maps for such transport and logistics hubs as Pavlodar.
To develop detailed scalable maps, including the database, as well as the infrastructure of the city, will be used the specialized software with open source code ArcGIS (Open Source).
Professor Laituri emphasized that product used in her project, will be qualitatively different from existing analogues, which are presented in the domestic market of Pavlodar.
One of the main features of the software is the ability to construct volume 3D maps, as well as "flexibility" of the 3D- map-maker due to its open system code.
It is expected to include to the infrastructure of Pavlodar map model on ArcGIS platform following elements: education, governance and culture.
A similar project has already been launched in six cities around the world, including Ethiopia, Nepal, Colombia, Peru, Ukraine and Indonesia. Melinda hopes that Pavlodar will be among the cities participating in this project.
According to Nurlan Yerzhanov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of S. Toraighyrov PSU, after the meeting had reached preliminary agreement on further cooperation with the university. Representatives of the USA Embassy and the University of Colorado expressed readiness to become partners.
