On International Translation Day, which has been celebrated on September 30 every year since 1991, the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies has summed up the results of the competition of translators, held at the University. Stories written by the American author Paul Deutschmann served as materials for translation.
The second year student Kamila Shaykhislamovna became the winner of the competition. The honorary second place was awarded to third year students Meruyert Issina and Anel Khassanova. Araylym Kamalbayeva received the bronze.
The competition has been held annually for four years. According to its results a few students are chosen as participants of the republic Olympiad, where defending the honour of the University, they become finalists and winners.
According to the head of the Department, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Galina Demessinovna the fact that the Department has been nominated for the “Appreciation from an Employer” brilliantly proves that the alumni of the Department are competitive specialists, who meet confidently the challenges of the present day world, and that they are in high demand in the labour market as well.
The jury were pleased to notice that the level of preparation of students improved in comparison with the previous year.
“The enhanced preparation and mobilization of knowledge were required at all stages of the competition,” says the silver prize holder of the competition Anel Khassanova, “and the competition provided a good opportunity to test the language proficiency level, thus it was complex assessment of knowledge and skills.”
