The Rector of Pavlodar State University, Aryn Orsariyev, visited Stanford University, one of the most prestigious research universities in the world holding top positions in many rankings of higher education institutions in the USA and worldwide.
As a result of this visit, a memorandum of cooperation with Silicon Valley Innovation Center was signed. According to this document, professors from Stanford and Berkeley and young successful start-up entrepreneurs will come to Pavlodar.
Besides, PSU employees will be able to have internships in Silicon Valley under the Bolashak program and study the experience of successful cooperation between universities (Stanford, Berkeley, etc.) and businesses (Hewlett Packard, Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.).
According to Aryn Orsariyev, PSU is interested in studying Stanford's experience of profound cooperation with the economy of the region and development of entrepreneurial spirit among undergraduate and postgraduate students. The experience accumulated by Silicon Valley can be relevant for Pavlodar region, one of the largest industrial regions of Kazakhstan. “Innovative technologies developed by the University can ensure competitiveness of the largest industrial complexes, dynamically developing small and medium enterprises,” he said.
PSU is the oldest university in the region and it has an extensive experience of successful cooperation with companies of the region, including under the State Program of Industrial and Innovative Development. Pavlodar region is one of the key industrial regions of Kazakhstan with a well-developed regional production complex.
Pavlodar State University also has the capacity for effective integration of the University's research projects and the needs of the real sector. The Yertis Science and Technology Park is one of PSU's structures ensuring such integration.
“Sustainable cooperation between the university and organizations of Pavlodar region makes it possible to develop partnership between science, production and education and expand contacts with other regions of the country,” said Aryn Orsariyev.
PSU focuses on preparing students for practical work in business. Students begin working on real problems of specific companies starting from their university studies. This also helps to solve the problem of students' employment. “We can develop the entrepreneurial spirit in students only in close cooperation with employers. We expect even greater involvement in the educational process from them,” says the Rector of PSU.
Branches of PSU’s departments have already been established at many large companies of the region, where students attend lectures, seminars and workshops, conduct research, write and defend their graduation theses. The administration and leading experts of these companies also take part in all educational and research activities. Research results are implemented in production and used by postgraduate students in their dissertations.
