Associate Professor of the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Chemical Technology and Natural Sciences of S. Toraighyrov PSU, Yuliya Kanibolotskaya participated in the international Capacity Building Workshop on Inquiry Based Science Education in Astana.
Among participants of the Workshop there were representatives of such countries as France, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, as well as young scientists and teachers from different regions of Kazakhstan.
The event was organized by the Committee of Science under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a number of international organizations: ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), ECO Educational Institute (ECOEI), LAMAP Foundation, UNESCO, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre (ISTIC).
The aim of the Workshop was to train young Kazakh scientists to work with scientific ideas, develop and implement research projects.
According to Yuliya Kanibolotskaya, involving young people in research activities is of great importance. “It is crucial to help teaching staff develop their potential and use teaching methods that stimulate students' motivation to explore the world around them,” she said.
The Workshop included round-table discussions on “Identification of Strengths, Weaknesses and Opportunities for Implementation of Inquiry Based Science Education in ECO Countries” and “Strategic Steps for Implementation of Inquiry Based Science Education in ECO Countries. Examples of Achievements in Different National Contexts and Methods”.
As a result of the Workshop, a program for further cooperation was developed. All participants were awarded certificates.
