A training workshop devoted to working with Web of Science, a multidisciplinary electronic research platform, was held at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University.
The aim of the workshop was to increase the number of active users of Web of Science. Darya Bukhtoyarova, a customer relationship specialist at Thomson Reuters, told the audience about how to find a journal with impact factor to publish a research paper there and how to work with EndNote.
Darya Bukhtoyarova presented information on bibliometric data in the field of natural, social and human sciences, including the databases of Web of Science Core Collection, Conference Proceedings Citation Index, MEDLINE, SciELO, Derwent Innovations Index, Journal Citation Reports, and Science Citation Reports, stressing that these resources provide users with valuable information.
According to Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Management Rysty Sartova, such seminars are very important for all PSU members. “Now we will be able to use the knowledge obtained during today’s workshop in our research activities,” she said.
Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Professor of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering Vladimir Ryndin says that owing to this workshop, he learned a lot about publication of research papers in electronic sources and scientific journals.
Sayan Zhangazin, a doctoral student of the Department of Biology and Ecology, noted that the information learned during the workshop could be used in practice immediately. “This workshop has significantly improved my understanding of how to find the right journal with impact factor,” said Sayan.
Participants of the workshop also had a practical training session explaining how to use the resources offered by Web of Science in research activities and received certificates afterwards.
