An International Conference on Education and Science without Language Barriers was held at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University.
The Conference was aimed at promoting foreign language learning among specialists from various sectors, which can help them enhance international cooperation, participate in international programs and projects, win grants and scholarships, and conclude contracts and agreements with partners from other countries.
The Conference was attended by representatives from educational institutions located both in Kazakhstan and outside our country, as well as students and academic staff of S. Toraighyrov PSU.
Professor of Tyumen State Oil and Gas University, Director of the Lingua Scientific and Educational Center, Doctor of Philological Sciences Khabiba Shagbanova made a report on the role of foreign languages development from the historical and economic perspectives. According to her, nowadays, it is impossible to develop science and industry without speaking foreign languages, as we live in the era of globalization. Researchers from Pavlodar State University and Tyumen Oil and Gas University are working on a joint research projects in the field of oil and gas. “S. Toraighyrov PSU always invites us to take part in such conferences. We are glad that our colleagues from Kazakhstan pay so much attention to development of foreign languages,” said Khabiba Shagbanova.
Christina Wolf, a Language Assistant at Goethe Institute, stressed the importance of learning the German language in Kazakhstan as we approach EXPO-2017. Professional proficiency in German opens up opportunities for continuing education in universities of Germany and the EU.
Pavlodar State University is the regional leader in inviting foreign lecturers. One of such lecturers is a teacher of English, Master of Arts, Harry Leeds. He is now working at the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies of S. Toraighyrov PSU under the English Language Fellow project which is financed by the US Federal Government, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Georgetown University, USA. His report was devoted to frequently used words in Google Search. This study was carried out in the framework of corpus linguistics.
Participants of the Conference made many interesting reports highlighting various aspects of learning foreign languages. Director of the International Cooperation Department, Akmaral Kairbayeva, told about Pavlodar State University's experience in the field of international cooperation and achievements in this field.
