The annual Health Day event for students, faculty and staff members took place at the Ski Resort of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University. This event was dedicated to the memory of Mikhail Vorkunov, a veteran sportsman and former member of PSU.

Mikhail Vorkunov started his career in 1975 working as a Lecturer at the Department of Physical Education of Pavlodar Industrial Institute (the former name of S. Toraighyrov PSU). In total, he worked there for over 40 years and made a long way from a junior faculty member to the head of the Department.

Over the years of teaching, he trained many skiers who won trophies both in our country and abroad. He received a special award for merits in the development of physical education and sport. Mikhail Vorkunov will live forever in the annals of PSU.

This event gathered many participants and plenty of spectators who wanted to support their faculties and have some fun outside. The event was organized by Sunkar sports club of S. Toraighyrov PSU. According to Zhaudat Ableyev, Director of the Club, the main purpose of the event is to promote sports, active leisure and healthy lifestyles. “Today's sports festival is dedicated to the memory of a great coach and an outstanding person, Mikhail Vorkunov. As the leader of the skiing team, he won many titles at inter-institutional, municipal, regional, and national levels. I am pleased to say that the number of participants grows every year. Some people come just to support their teams, others prefer taking part personally,” said Zhaudat Ableyev.

Not only students, but also faculty and staff members of the University demonstrated their sporting skills on this day. The competition included several sections, e.g. sledding and skiing contests, as well as snowball darts, snow hockey, obstacle course, tug of war, etc.
