S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University hosted the 6th International Conference on Research and Technology entitled “Sh. Shokin Readings” on October 10, 2014.

Shafik Shokin is a great Kazakh scientist, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor, Full Member of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakh SSR, President of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakh SSR, the founder and first director of the Kazakh Research Institute of Energy Engineering.

The Conference was moderated by Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Nurlan Yerzhanov. Opening the plenary session, Nurlan Yerzhanov noted the importance of this Conference. “This is the sixth time this Conference brings us all together. It is our duty to remember our great countrymen and preserve their legacy. I am glad that every year not only the number, but also the quality of participants is growing. This professional collaboration and friendly atmosphere can help us generate, develop and implement the boldest research ideas,” said Nurlan Yerzhanov.

Dean of the Faculty of Energy Engineering, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Professor Aleksandr Kislov emphasized that Shafik Shokin's life is one of the most interesting pages in the history of science in Kazakhstan. “His whole life is an example for today's students. All of them are talented, creative and have a solid theoretical background. I am sure that all students here have enough desire and energy to materialise their ideas and make Kazakhstan one of the leading countries in the world with high scientific potential”.

The following scientists made reports during the plenary session: Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Theoretical and General Electrical Engineering of Omsk State Technical University Konstantin Nikitin (Algorithm of Directional Сurrent Protection without Voltage Circuit); Associate Professor of Karaganda State Industrial University, Candidate of Engineering Sciences Artyom Gurushkin (Main Aspects of Accreditation of Companies Specializing in the Energy Sector), Head of the Department of Electrical Power Engineering of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Vadim Markovskiy (Improving the Efficiency of Power-Generating Units Based on the Modification of Functional Surfaces of Steam-Turbine Condensers of Thermal Power Plants); Associate Professor of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Candidate of Engineering Sciences Yevgeniy Prikhodko (Production and Use of Renewable Organic Fuel in the Energy Sector).

The Conference was also attended by Director of the Institute of Energy Conservation Yerzhan Temirkhanov, director of KazAsiaExpo LLP Sergey Litvinov, Chief Engineer of the Electrical Networks Company Sergey Kirilenko, Chief Engineer of the House Electrical Networks Company Pavel Morozov, and Chief Power Engineer of Aluminium of Kazakhstan JSC Igor Malyshev.

Participants of the Conference also attended a book exhibition entitled “Sh. Shokin as the Founder of Energy Engineering in Kazakhstan”.
