On December 5, 2013, S. Toraighyrov PSU hosted a scientific and methodological seminar on the Role of Customs and Traditions in the Islamic Religion which was held for imams of cities and areas of Pavlodar region, their deputies and students of the Madrasa named after Abu Bakir Syddyk.

The seminar was attended by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of the Kazakh Language Ayman Zeynulina, Director of the Regional Scientific and Practical Center for the Study of Inter-ethic and Inter-confessional Processes Nurzhamal Tyshkanova, undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University.

This seminar was held in order to analyze the condition of religious values and Kazakh traditions in modern Kazakhstan and trends of their development in the context of interfaith diversity.

The seminar was organized by the Central Mosque named after M.Zh. Kopeyev.

This scientific and methodological seminar is one of the planned activities of the Mosque for revival of religious values, national traditions and their promotion among the residents of Pavlodar region.

The following people made reports during the seminar: an authorized representative of the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Kazakhstan, Chief Imam of the Central Mosque Nariman Isenov, Head of the Department of the Kazakh Language Ayman Zeynulina, third-year student of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology Gabit Khafiz, Naib Imam of the Central Mosque named after M.Zh. Kopeyev Nurzhan Manapbayev, and Director of the Center Nurzhamal Tyshkanova.

Then there was a discussion of topical problems of spiritual and moral education of young people, the correct understanding and perception of religious values in the context of confessional diversity of modern Kazakhstan society, as well as the formation of a civic stance on countering pseudo-religious movements and ideas uncharacteristic and dangerous for our society. During this polylogue, a proposal was made to use the possibilities of modern media in promoting the basics of traditional culture and customs.

University and madrasa students expressed their position regarding improvement of the status of a family, respect for a woman, mother and girl, informing young people on the peculiarities of the Kazakh national culture and the use of its elements under modern conditions.

Some proposals were also made on the cooperation in the field of the spiritual and moral education of young people, promotion of the traditions and customs of the Kazakh people, religious values.

According to Nariman Isenov, “We must cherish and develop the cultural and spiritual values of the Kazakh people to maintain and strengthen peace and harmony in our multicultural country”.

He also noted that this seminar helped its participants learn a lot of interesting and useful information. After the end of the seminar, its organizers expressed their gratitude to A.F. Zeynulina, N.S. Tyshkanova, specialist of the Center A.A. Shaymerden, undergraduate and graduate students for a high level of organization of this event.
