A practical seminar entitled “The Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Field of Combating Religious Radicalism, Extremism, and Terrorism” for Vice-deans for Educational Work, curators of student groups, leaders and members of the student self-government structures was held at S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University on November 11, 2013.
This practical seminar was held in order to explain the main provisions of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of combating extremism and terrorism, (in particular, the state program on combating religious extremism and terrorism in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2013-2017) as well as improve legal literacy of PSU students.
The event was organized by the Regional Research Center for the Study of Inter-ethnic and Inter-confessional Processes of S. Toraighyrov PSU.
This practical seminar was attended by the Vice-rector for Research and Innovation of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Nurlan Yerzhanov, Director of the Department for Religious Affairs of the Pavlodar region Yerzhan Rakhimzhanov, Prosecutor of the Division of the First Prosecutor's Office of the Pavlodar region Yerbolat Ziyadov, Acting Head of the Department for Combating Extremism of the Department of the Internal Affairs of the Pavlodar region Zhanat Slyamov.
During this practical seminar, its participants considered the basic legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in combating extremism and terrorism, as well as other legal acts regulating relations in this field, clarified the administrative and criminal liability for committing acts of terrorism or extremism, discussed topical problems of the current religious situation, the forms and methods of work on raising the legal awareness of the youth, and the role of student groups and organizations in the field of prevention of religious extremism.
The participants of the event exchanged their views and suggestions on improvement of the work with young people, raising the legal awareness, outlined new forms of cooperation between the University and state agencies.
According to the Director of the Center Nurzhamal Tyshkanova, this is one of the planned activities of the University in the field of prevention of the religious extremism ideas popularization among students. This work is carried out in accordance with the priorities outlined in the Address of the President to the People of Kazakhstan: the Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy: A New Political Course of a Well-established State. She also emphasized that the knowledge received during this event must be used by Vice-deans, curators, and students for carrying out preventive work among students. Special thanks were given to the heads of state agencies for their close cooperation and practical assistance in legal education.
