The A.Kh. Margulan United Archaeological Research Center at Toraighyrov University has become a platform for developing international scientific cooperation with Russian colleagues.

In order to study the natural and climatic processes that influenced the formation of the geological and landscape features of the Irtysh region, the Center for Archaeological Research named after A.Kh. Margulan at Toraighyrov University was visited by Artem Yakimov, Candidate of Geographical Sciences and Leading Researcher at the Laboratory of Paleocryology and Historical Geoecology of the Earth Cryosphere Institute, Tyumen Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

As part of the implementation of the project by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. AR26199457 “The Late Bronze Age of the Kazakh Irtysh Region,” bottom sediment samples were taken from Borly Lake to study their morphological structure and chemical composition. The research is aimed at reconstructing sedimentation processes during the Late Holocene (the last five thousand years) in the western part of the Kulunda Plain.

In addition, water samples were collected for hydrochemical analysis, which will help determine the dynamics of salinity and changes in the chemical composition of the lake waters, as well as their influence on the formation of bottom sediments.

The joint work of Kazakh and Russian scientists contributes to a comprehensive study of the natural environment and ancient communities of the region, as well as to addressing current issues in the archaeology and paleogeography of Central Asia.
