History of the Department

The Department of Foreign Languages was founded in 2001 instead of the Department of the German Language and the Department of the English Language. In the 2002-2003 academic year, the Department was divided into two. There was the Department of Foreign Language for Education and Department of Foreign Language for Engineering, Law and Economics. In the 2003-2004 academic year, the two departments were merged again and this time the name of the newly established unit was the Department of Practical Course of Foreign Languages. It was included in the Institute of Language, Literature and Art. Starting from April 2004, the Department was a structural unit of the Institute of Foreign Languages. Being a serving unit, the Department does not have its own graduates. The Department of Practical Course of Foreign Languages joined the Faculty of Humanities and Education on September 1, 2008. In 2012, it was renamed the Department of Foreign Languages.

The following courses are offered: English, German, Profession-Oriented Foreign Language, Professional Foreign Language (for all Bachelor's and Master's degree programs).

The staff of the Department includes 18 units, including 14 full-time members and 4 part-time workers. There are 3 Candidates of Philological Sciences, 1 Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, 1 PhD, 4 Masters in English Philology and 6  Masters in Education.

Supervision of contractual research projects performed by the Department, organization and conduct of methodological workshops for teachers of foreign languages in the city and region, expert evaluation of the teaching complex for 11th-grade students of general secondary schools.
