The Department’s Achievements for 2017 – 2018 Academic Year

Academic In the 2017-2018 academic year, the student body amounted to only 111 people, including: bachelor’s degree students: 103, master’s degree students: 7.

The academic performance of students majoring in 5B060900 Geography improved by 3.3 %. The academic performance of students majoring in 5B090200 Tourism improved by 4.66 %.

Students of Tur-201, A. Ibragimov and Ayana Yessim, completed training at the University of Turiba, Riga, Latvia, under the academic mobility program.

Curriculum support and development The following study guides, curriculum guidelines, electronic training courses and video-lectures have been developed:

1. Electronic textbook and 1 video-lecture, 1 online training course in the amount of 105-185 MB by D. D. Yessimova;

2. "Demographic Aspect of Implementation of the Concept of Sustainable Development in Pavlodar Region" a monograph by M. Yu. Kochetkov (S. Toraighyrov PSU, 106 pp.).

Scientific Teaching staff members M. T. Dossova, B. A. Chashina enrolled in the specific purposes doctoral program at L. N. Gumilyov ENU.

The Department carried out independent research work under the supervision of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor D. D. Yessimova and PhDs Sh. G. Kairova, M. A. Alkeyev. D. D. Yessimova was awarded the letter of appreciation from Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. G. S. Azhayev and M. A. Alkeyev are members of the K. I. Satpayev International competition’s jury. Sh. G. Kairova was awarded the certificate Olimp Shynyna Zheteleushy [Leading to the Peaks of Olympus] of Vice-Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Sh. G. Kairova is a member of the Republican Geography Olympiad’s jury.

The following teaching staff members have completed professional development courses:

1. D. D. Yessimova, G. S. Azhayev are participants of the professional development course “Continuous Professional Development in the Field of Energy, Environmental Protection, Engineering Safety and Industrial Ecology”, Pavlodar, October 06, 2017;

2. D. D. Yessimova, G. S. Azhayev, Sh. G. Kairova, M. A. Alkeyev, B. A. Chashina, Sh. K. Kakezhanova, Z. M. Sergazinova are participants of the professional development course “Urgent Issues of Social Economic Geography and Regional Tourism Development Factors”, April 20, 2018;

3. D. D. Yessimova, G. S. Azhayev, Sh. G. Kairova, M. A. Alkeyev, B. A. Chashina, Sh. K. Kakezhanova, Z. M. Sergazinova are participants of the professional development course “Introduction to Tourist Guiding” designed for the beginner tourist guides, guides (a guide/translator), April 20, 2018;

4. B. A. Chashina is a holder of the certificate of completion of the professional development course “Innovative pedagogical technologies within the framework of renewed education” (delivered in Kazakh) held by the Republican Center for Professional Development “Orleu”.

All academic and teaching staff members and students of the Department participated in the II Summer School “From Green Economy to a New Type of Ecological Culture” held at the tourist center “Bayantau” of S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University.

In the ranking of the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education of Kazakhstan for 2016, the degree programs “Geography” and “Tourism” in the field of 6M060900 Geography and 6M090200 Tourism (master’s degree programs) have taken the leading positions. They have beaten the other 6 universities of Kazakhstan participated in the ranking. The bachelor’s degree program 5B060900 Geography was ranked 3rd, the 5B090200 Tourism came fifth in the rating.

The student team “Geostar” of the G-201 was awarded the diploma of the winner of the IX Republican Subject Olympiad (coming second).

Ayana Yessim and Aliya Tukayeva participated in the competition for youth “Prospects of the Development of Tourism in Kazakhstan” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan organized by the Department for Youth Policy Affairs of Astana.

Undergraduate and graduate students of the G-301, Tur-201, G-202, gr.Tur-301, G-401, MTur-12p, Tur-101, MG-12n, Tur-402, G-302, MG-12n participated in the international scientific and practical conference “The VIII Toraighyrov Readings” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence of Kazakhstan. The number of scientific publications amounts to 50, including those cited in foreign periodicals indexed by Scopus-2 database.

Educational Students of the Department actively participated in various national events and were awarded honorary certificates and diplomas.
